Documentation up-lift

Greetings,

We're pushing some documentation changes to remove unreal and
unimplemented details, as well as making it more pleasant to
navigate.. it's part of an ambitious plan of making them actually
useful.

The candidate improved documentation is available at:

These changes are not yet merged in trunk, but they are up for review.
If you want to suggest any further changes/improvements, just shout.
