It sounds like it might work, but also seems a very heavy weight approach.

I opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1200267 - if it actually is a
simple request the information I'm after might get exposed sooner
rather than later. Monitoring tools might also like it if the status
of an environment is exposed, rather than having to iterate over
services and units and deduce the status.
