Things have changed in the upgrade files.  After doing another Kubuntu 5.04
install this morning and verifying that KDE would run, I also checked that sound
was inoperative.  It was inoperative.  Then I did apt-get update and apt-get
upgrade.

This time KDE still ran.  However, no sound.  I verified that cs461x is in
/etc/hotplug/blacklist.d/alsa-base (bug 8084).

I'm still working.
