Summary: hwclock -r fails on Dell Precision 670 due to rtc
driver, use genrtc instead?
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
URL: http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2004-

OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: fabbione at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: andy at groveronline.com

This seems to be a common problem with Dell server/workstation machines. Doing a
hwclock -r fails with:
select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out
rmmoding rtc and insmoding genrtc fixes it (as does hwclock -r --directisa)
