Summary: initrd rebuild and legacy nvidia...
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: linux-restricted-modules
AssignedTo: daniel.stone at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: kl at 3dots.de
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
if you have linux-restricted-modules installed and want to use NOT the nvidia driver from that
version (or can't, as you have an old card), you have a problem: the new, not working driver get's
rebuild after each reboot... Same would happe, if you want a newer driver...
possible solutions:
a) find a way to use the version from nvidia-installer first
b) find a way to disable the rebuild for specific drivers
