Hello, I have same problem with "VIA Samuel 2". 
After some minutes or one hour of use my Kubuntu 5.10 i always get it freezed.
 I have delete kernel modules cpufreq_***, freq_table.ko and longhaul.ko from
/lib/modules/**** and without these modules is work very stable.
My motherboard is PC Chips 789GC ver.3.0  and CPU is marked as VIA C3 2000+ .
