Summary: including the "realtime" LSM module in the desktop
kernel
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: ben.collins at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: artemio at kdemail.net
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Dear all,
in the name of all those who work professionally with audio applications, I would like to request the "realtime" LSM module to
be compiled and included in the standard-shipped desktop kernel.
Audio manipulation/production applications such as Ardour, Hydrogen and many others make use of this module to allow for very
precise audio generation no matter what you do with the GUI. So this module is actually the very essence of what we, sound
designers and composers, need in a Linux system.
I head a community of about 3500 electronic musicians, and lots of them are interested in migrating to Linux. I would like to
suggest them Ubuntu, but so far I can't as they will be frightened by the fact that they'll need to recompile the kernel to get
realtime audio operation.
Thank you very much, I sincerely hope this will be possible.
