I've just downloaded the 5.10 too and experienced exactly the same problem. 
My laptop is a Acer Travelmate 525. I guess that it is not possible to upgrade
during the install process. 

I've installed Debian Sarge flawlessly in the same equipment. And I was able to 
dist-upgrade to testing distribution.
