2.6.10 had alsa 1.0.6 and no.. it's not a matter of just recompiling. It means
changing
a lot more than that possibly breaking other systems.

Stable is stable. There is nothing strict about it. a "stable" behaviour means also
to live with known bugs and know when/where they are fixed, but you are welcome
to take the argument on ubuntu-devel mailing list and see if other people are
dealing
to change the policy.
bugzilla is not exactly a forum to discuss this topic ;)
