Sorry for the delay in adding comments. With the lack of sound problem, which was a killer for me, I abandoned 
Kunbuntu for kanotix. I then installed a sound blaster live to get around the sound issue. I have recently 
come back to Kunbutu. Now that the How-to's for problems and coustomizations have matured I have not problems 
that I am not able to overcome. I still have the sound blaster installed. Thanks for your help.
