Created an attachment (id=2583)

brief startup test with firefox

Attached is some timing data illustrating the performance issues when hotplug
handles the usb audio hardware. I'm using Firefox as an example. Firefox takes
roughly 3x longer to start up (both user and system time).
Everything else in Ubuntu seems to be about 3x slower as well (menus opening,
other apps opening etc).
One thing I notice is that there are differences in the number of pagefaults,
particularly the major pagefaults at the top of the attached file.

Can anyone reading this tell me what other data would be useful in tracking
down the problem (either in an email or a comment here)?
