I am having a similar problem with pressed hoary CD's.,

Both the liveCD and the install CD start the boot sequence normally.
probes and module loadings continue for a while, then CD activity stops
and the boot process does not continue. Here are the last initializations.

ohci1394
ohci_hcd
atiixp
yenta_socket
pci
usb
ide
scsi

When I press ctrl+c the following line is printed over and over:
"/build/buildd/cdebconf-0.74ubuntu10/src/debconf.c:128 (main): Cannot initialize
debconf template database"

The system is an asus laptop with an ide disk and a cd-rw/dvd drive.
It installed and worked with warty last year. Now it's running suse.
I'm not sure If I should open a new bug. Is this bug still being monitored ?
I can take a photo of the freezing point and alt+sysrq+t output, and I can 
post lspic, dmesg outputs of suse if we will continue here.
