My interpretation of the original report (which is not entirely clear) is that
the correct protocol is used on the live CD, and the incorrect one on the
installed system.

I don't know what could cause this, unless the CDs in use are Ubuntu 4.10/Warty,
in which case those CDs have two different kernels.  In 5.04/Hoary and later,
they are the same kernel.

In any case, please leave this as UNKNOWN until we find the source of the
problem.  It's definitely not a problem with the ubuntu-live metapackage.
