           Summary: 2.6.12 breaks Davicom NIC
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
               URL: http://g-lite.kochen.nl/misc/kernelbug/
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: linux
        AssignedTo: fabbione at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: stephan at kochen.nl
         QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I've tested two versions of the 2.6.12 kernel in breezy. (2.6.12-3.2 and I
believe the other was 2.6.12-2.2, or whatever came before the former)
Each breaks my primary ethernet controller, it simply stops receiving anything
after a minute or two after bootup.

The device works fine in the 2.6.10 series. I didn't have internet access
because of this bug, so I gathered as much information as I could at:
http://g-lite.kochen.nl/misc/kernelbug/
The device is identified as eth0.

As mentioned before, it works for a minute or two, it gets an address from the
DHCP server as shown by the output of ifconfig. And I usually get enough time to
quickly log on a couple of networks such as irc or im, but that doesn't last
long. Several minutes after the thing dies I get the error at the very end of
the dmesg output: 0000:00:0c.0: tulip_stop_rxtx() failed

In earlier kernels (warty? or perhaps whatever I used before ubuntu) I used to
get this error constantly, and it didn't seem to affect the connection. In fact,
in the 2.6.10 kernel I'm running right now, it also appears once in my dmesg
output. Not sure if this is really the problem then, but thought it might be
worth mentioning.

Besides that, I've added the output of lsmod. Modules used are dmfe and mii.
Lspci output is there aswell. The ping1 file is a simple ping over the realtek
device, eth1, which works as expected. ping2 is what happens on the davicom device.

Hope this is enough information, if there's anything else though, I'll be happy
to help and test some more.
