I thought "crash" was clear enough. What happenned is that the system completely
and literally stopped to respond to my commands: ctrl+alt+f1, ctrl+alt+backspace
and even ctrl+alt+del had no effect at all. Nor the mouse pointer would move as
I moved the mouse. A complete freeze. In one case, the part of the music I was
listening to came to an infinite loop (about 1 second of music being incessantly
repeated).
I opened my PC and verified that the model of the drive is CED-8120B. The serial
number is 1042D16230. It is a 12x 8x 32x cdrw drive. I should add that the drive
is a bit old and has been having mechanical problems (sometimes it can't eject)
but that souldn't crash my system. It does not seem to have logical problems at
playing music or reading data althoug maybe it has problems and I don't notice.
The last time I tried to record a CD in it, it complained that I sould insert an
empty or 326 MB free CD, but I'm sure it was empty. But it could be a software
bug in the burner or a permission problem.
I could add that I have been whitnessing some "application foo quited
unexpectedly" , but that may be a bug in the ubuntu hoary preview I'm using. In
Kurumin (a brazillian flavour of Knoppixx) I didn't have problems, except for
firefox, but the firefox version of Kurumin was proven to be bugged in others
computers as well.
