OK. Now I have a simple solution to my problem.
I wanted to watch a DVD, but playback was jerky. So, after some research, I
found out that dma mode was off. I turned it on with hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc , and
now cd burning with cd's and dvd's also works (and acpi is on).
Is dma on my cd/dvd-drive suspected to be off with hoary? Is it the default? I
installed the system (again) with a daily cd on 20050329 (yesterday).
