Hi, Gentoo user here being affected by the same issue - so I suspect (:P) that
it's not a Ubuntu issue.  However my experience is slightly different in that I
*cannot* boot up without AC.  Attempting to boot up on DC, or switch from AC to
DC whilst running just hangs my T40 completely irrespective of whether laptop
mode is enabled or not.
