Very recently, the "hoary-security" repository had an update to
linux-image-2.6.10-5-686-smp (which is what I use here). It updated the kernel
from version 2.6.10-34 to 2.6.10-34.1, and the changelog contains a bunch of
security updates.

It is this new kernel that totally ate any automagic mounting for USB devices.
Everything seemed to work fine, but whatever tells pmount to go was just failing
to trigger.

I reverted to the kernel from "hoary" - 2.6.10-34 (without the .1), and
everything is great again.
