Just for the record, I do not agree that the existence of easier means of
compromising a system makes this problem any less critical.

The device numbers are correct. I very regularly use USB mass storage devices.
Note that while reading from the drive, its LED did indicate activity.

The data was stable between tries within a single session of testing, but I
didn't do other things while trying to read from this drive. I cannot try this
anymore, because the combination of physical drive and its specific PCB is gone
now. The data repeated, but I haven't thought of measuring the interval.
