yes, it does fix the problem in breezy, after slight modification:
/etc/init.d/dbus-1 must be replaced with /etc/init.d/dbus.

Ben, the problem is still present in the lates breezy. Resuming iBook G3/900
would stop with messages about my NIC. Please, use Ben's patch when compiling
the next kernel update for Breezy, or, alternatively, supply an updated hal
script desribed in comment #39 for PPC users. Without that, Ubuntu experience is
quite bad on G3 iBooks.
