I just hit this bug trying to get the modem working on my ThinkPad T30
which has an Ambit modem as described here:

I was able to build the drivers from the
ltmodem-2.6-alk-7b.tar.gz tarball (dated 8 September 2005) available
here:

    http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/

dmesg shows:

I am not sure why ltserial doesn't load but that's a matter for further
investigation....
