Summary: BREEZY - nvidia restricted driver stopped working after
breezy upgrade
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux-restricted-modules
AssignedTo: daniel.stone at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: jjchico at dte.us.es
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I have upgraded from hoary to breezy and it took me some time to ge my nvidia
tnt2 running again with the restricted driver from nvidia (with 3d
acceleration). Basically, the upgrade failed to set up the new configuration now
that there is a separate driver for old nvidia 3d cards (legacy driver). I did
not try a fresh install and I suppouse it may be work in progress.
What I did to get it work again (after probing a lot):
- Upgrade to breezy: X stopped working. dpkg-revonfigure xserver-xorg to the
free nv driver and it worked
- installed new nvidia-glx-legacy package with Xorg driver
- installed new linux-restricted-modules-2.6.12-9-686-nvidia-legacy package with
the nvidia kernel driver for old cards.
- reconfigure restricted modules: dpkg-reconfigure linux-restricted-2.6.12-9-686
- restart X: /etc/init.d/gdm restart
It should be done automatically. Maybe some of:
- linux-restricted-modules-XXX depend on
linux-restricted-modules-X.X.X-Y-Z-nvidia-legacy, so it is automatically installed.
- linux-restricted-modules-XXX reconfiguration run automatically, with automatic
detection of the driver to activate.
