Yeah, I noticed that after I uploaded it, which leads me to believe this is a
more general problem (please reassign as necessary).
/dev/hdd is my DVD-ROM drive. Since at least $blah (where $blah is probably
somewhere around when I switched from Warty to early Breezy, or actually maybe
when I switched to 2.6 on Gentoo) it's been giving me problems if I start up
without a disc in the drive. It won't recognize any discs I insert on those
boots. Also hdparm will lock up if I run it on the drive when it's empty.
It's a Pioneer DVD-120S. Maybe because it's a slot load? A quick google search
reveals someone on linuxquestions with a similar problem on FC2.
