So, I have had some expereiences today that makes me believe that some signal is
causing my ipw2200 wireless card to cause a kernel panic.

My roommate has the exact same model laptop as I do. Because this error always
has a stack trace with ipw in it, I had a hunch that it might be something over
wireless. Both my roomate and I kept our computers on VT1. We watched the
terminals (at this point in time the error were happening every 5 minutes, so it
didn't take too long). The error always appeared at exactly the same time on
both of our computers. We were also both hooked up to the campus wired network,
however, I eliminated the possibility of a faulty packet coming over that by
unplugging my ethernet cable.

Short of some weird action-at-a-distance quantum mechanics, it seems most likely
that there is some packet coming over the wireless network causing the wireless
driver to have a kernel oops. The CMU wireless system is very large, there are
tons of packets flying over the air at any time, so it would make sense that we
see this "magic packet" frequently. This would also explain why most people
can't reproduce this issue using the same hardware: the bad packet isn't coming
over the air to them.
