I have a similar problem, but not a complete lockup. 
Any program which tries to use my webcam (Logitech QuickCam Express - Device ID
0x0920) simply locks up and I can't kill it at all.
When I start gnomemeeting from the console, it tells me it can't find the
display and then hangs.
