I confirm this bug on 2.6.12 / ubuntu breezy
2.6.12-9-686-smp #1 SMP Mon Oct 10 13:36:57 BST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

Machine : p4,2600, 512 megs ov ram, 1gig  swap;
memory status :

free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 508192 497916 10276 0 3436 79704
-/+ buffers/cache: 414776 93416
Swap: 1000432 240276 760156

Problem :
Some processes get randomly killed by oom-killer, EVEN IF THERE IS PLENTY of
swap available.
Example :

[4448628.925000] Total swap = 1000432kB
[4448628.925000] Out of Memory: Killed process 12961 (jbuilder).

After the failed startup of jbuilder (killed by OOM) the second try, just
seconds after that succeeds.
This also happens with open office base whick has the bad habit of using a lot
of memory.

I never had this problems on hoary and I always used the same set of applications.
May I say, oom-killer is just sh*t, it brings NOTHING useful. I would greatly
preffer to let a certain application crash in it's
own way when it will get a memory allocation error instead of being suddenly
killed by that damned oomkiller without a trace.

Please someone raise the severity of this bug, I think it's pretty severe to
have sometimes critical applications/processes disappearing.
