What do you mean by downloading?

Thats not possible:
rm -rf /lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686
rm: cannot remove directory `/lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686/volatile': Device or
resource busy

I restored my backup of that directory (cp /lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686-ORIG
/lib/modules/2.6.12-8-686), no error occured.

> $ sudo dpkg -i /path/to/alsa-modules-2.6.12-8-686_1.0.9b-3ubuntu1~2_i386.deb
