Try pressing alt+sysrq+t when it hangs to see what is happening.  Try
control+alt+f2 to get a command line, and use shell commands like ps to see what
is running.  Please try the aforementioned kernel parameters, even if they were
not necessary under 5.04, in order to help trace the problem.
