I have a similar problem with my desktop computer, I have a VIA VT6102
Ethernet card installed.
It worked fine with my first ever install of linux - Ubuntu Dapper.
Worked fine - as in connecting to the net through my Linksys WAG54G
ver.2 router.
However, when I tried to install a USB2 WUSB54G wireless -G Adaptor and
tried to configure it / activate it = freeze. Also had difficulty
switching from eth0.

If you want me to provide further information you will have to tell me
exactly what to type - also I would like to know how to add the
acpi=noirq option - is this my best choice?
