ed-ong, I tried that fix and I had a freeze in less than 1 minute! on a
16bit resolution might I add

so it's not working for me

686 kernel
ati mobility radeon 7500 (m7)
ibm thinkpad T40

in 32bit without those options, I don't get freezes often, but
occasionally I get them (few times in a week when I use the laptop for a
long time)
