>From what I can tell, this is a hardware issue when switching to certain
resolutions. I've seen this on my amd64 system, and it doesn't happen
with one LCD panel, but does with another (I think the one LCD panel
doesn't sync very well). Switching to console and back to X
(CTRL+Alt+F1, then ALT+F7) seems to cure it.
