I've got the same problems as above.
System: P4, Via chipset, plain ATA drive,
kernel and custom image 2.6.15-23-686.

-386 also fails the same way, custom or not.

Dapper has been released, and the kernel
and initrd has not changed.

I've tried various tricks to load drivers
when the kernel hangs and finally drops
into a simple shell, but there is nothing
to be found. The kernel doesn't seem to
even have the ATA driver.
