I can confirm this too with the exact same hardware. The problem is in
the ALSA pmac sound module. The module makes the complete system freeze.
This problem is going on for some months now. For some reason no
developer has ever fixed it. I also find it strange that this Ubuntu
release has never been tested on an iMac G5.
