It looks like many of us with this chipset are finding the workaround here:

Long story short, it looks like we can use the Davicom chipset if it's
handled by the module named "dmfe". But the Dapper installation process
sets up the chipset to be handled by the "tulip" module rather than the
"dmfe" module.
So this appears to be bug in how Dapper decides what driver to throw at
this chipset. Or alternatively, the tulip driver is busted.
