Still didn't work for me.

sudo iwlist eth1 scan returns no results. I've tried the firmware that's
listsed in the wiki (which I think is newer than the one you mentioned)
and also the one you mentioned and neither brought me any better
results.

This is getting desperate. I don't know how long it is before I try
another distro...
