[Bug 48901] screen multiple blanking on tty's

Public bug reported:

Hi. I'm using a fresh install of Dapper. If i switch to any terminal
ALT+F1-6, the screen blanks for about a second - and repeats this at
seemingly random intervals whilst using the terminal.

System log appears to show:

after every switch to the terminal.

(Will attach lspci -vv to next post if i can figure out how!)
