[Bug 34708] Re: Network is not working

I have what may be a similar problem. I just tried the grub solution
proposed above and had maybe a micro-second of success, but not real
solution.

In upgrading to dapper LTS 2.6.15-23 from breezy 2.6.12-10 using the
synaptics prompt, I lost all eth and had splash screen problems. Booting
again using 2.6.12-10 solves them. I have tried this several times and
it is true each time.

The networking problem seems to be that the card is completely not
recognised: I can't get it started from ifdown eth0; ifup eth0, or from
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart. I also get a whole series of errors
having to do with postfix (in 2.6.15-23 only). The splash screen problem
is that the Ubuntu splash (the one before the login) is pushed over
against the right side of the monitor.

Anyway, this seems to me to be a pretty critical error, as it wipes out
network access from machines that worked fine under breezy.
