Public bug reported:
I'am using Kubuntu Dapper. 3 weeks before final release there was a change in sound subsystem (I don't really know weather it was a kernel, alsa or just kmix) affecting my soundcard's (HDA Intel; pci id = 8086:2668 (rev 05)) controls. I can no longer adjust sound for the headphones output, there is no longer slider for this in kmix or alsamixer. It is turned off and I can't turn it on. So in effect my headphones are useless.
Instead of setting for headphones there is a new option where I can choose a number of channels: 2 or 6. I don't know how it was supposed to work, but now it works like this:
In "2 channels" mode I can't get output for rear speakers. And in the "6 channels" mode an output for rear speakers comes from the output labeled... "Line In", which is obviously misleading.
Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'alsa';
however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Low
Status: Needs Info
