Comment:
This apparently has something to do with my external Zip250 SCSI drive.
It does not support Synchonous transfer.
Since I had previously just updated to Breezy through Hoary, I thought
that maybe something had gone wrong there and tried a fresh install. The
install tanked (freezing the machine) just after detecting the SCSI card
and Zip drive.
That made me suspicious, so I unplugged the Zip drive and rebooted into
the current Breezy install....no problem. (although fstab had been
overwritten). I also tried rebooting with the Zip drive on, but the disk
ejected...problem reoccured. So it is definitely either the Zip drive or
an interaction between the Zip drive and my Tekram DC395 SCSI card.
