That's your problem right there. The old udev/initramfs stuff is loading
ide-generic first, which is not using DMA. This is different from how
dapper is supposed to work where the enhanced ide modules get loaded
first, and ide-generic last so it picks up any IDE devices not handled
by the enhanced drivers.
