My problem may be a bit different; it happens only after several hours
of disuse. For example, when I use the computer before going to bed,
everything works fine. Then go to sleep, wake up, have to ubplug/plug
back in. Same goes for when I come back from work.
My solution is to keep an Xterm open with the following commands in
history:
sudo modprobe -r uhci_hcd
sudo modprobe uhci_hcd
Then hit the space bar to get the display back, alt-tab to the terminal,
enter those two commands, and the mouse is back.
It beats having to root around at the back of the computer.
I suppose a more automated workaround would be to have those two
commands run in cron every 5 hours or so.
