I'm having the same issue on my XPS m140.  2.6.15-19 (i686) breaks sound
all together as mentioned above, so I reverted to 2.6.15-18. The
speaker/headphone jack is still obviously present. Is there any reason
why the mentioned patch won't be included in an upcoming kernel build?
