Um...could you provide more information regarding your hardware setup? Have you tried hibernating from a console (ie. without X running) ? Try to unload as many drivers as possible and see if you can isolate this to a particular driver or so....

Could you be a little more specific about the problem? Does this happen with both sleep and hibernate? If you hibernate, does the computer actually turn off or does it never get to that stage? Does it turn off, but cannot resume when you turn it on again? 

If you "hibernate", you will need to turn your system on to resume, it's not a matter of moving the mouse, since it has turned off (you know this already, but I thought I might double check).
