Yes, as a matter of fact.

This machine is in production, so I hadn't been able to
give it a proper test, though we have upgraded it to
breezy.  And in the mean time, the other system I
mentioned was also put into production.

However, as it turns out, just last week the system in
question completely lost power, making it's subsequent
boot a good test of this problem.  I just confirmed
with the sysadmin that re-applied power, and as it
turns out, the Breezy initrd seems to have done the
trick!
