I can see the argument for adding these options to recovery mode too;
but on the other hand it's easier for a user to add options at boot time
than to remove them, and it's important that recovery mode be as plain
as possible; not all options that might be copied into menu.lst are ones
you'd necessarily want to use in recovery mode.

I think it would be better to fix the reason why your machine fails to
boot without "noapic nolapic". Could you attach the output of
'dmidecode' on your machine to this bug, please?
