[Bug 44794] VIA Velocity link status always "yes"

I have an ABit AV8 motherboard with a Via Velocity gigabit ethernet controller onboard.
No matter whether there is a cable connected or not, ethtool reports that the link status is "yes".

While this is not a huge problem, it does mean that the Network Manager
applet always believes it can use a wired connection, which is not the
case and prevents it attaching to my wireless network automagically.
