The bug on my system has been fixed by an upgrade to Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy).
I imagine anyone using 6.06 LTS with my hardware will still be seeing
this issue - it wasn't fixed at the time of my upgrade.

I'm not sure if this still needs to be investigated or not, but I
imagine it should be as the 6.06 release should be supported for some
time now. There's obviously something that could be backported to fix
it.
