Public bug reported:

I tried the 6.06.1 livecd on an Asus F3J. Sound doesn't work. When I try
to play the sample content, it appears to be playing, but nothing can be
heard (login sounds don't work either). The volume is turned on, the
sound card is apparently detected (I can select "HDA Intel" in the
default sound card preferences) but nothing can be heard. I made sure
nothing is muted and that the volume is maximum.

ubuntu at ubuntu:~$ aplay --list-devices
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC861 Analog [ALC861 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC861 Digital [ALC861 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
ubuntu at ubuntu:~$

Attached you will find lspci and dmesg outputs.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Low
         Status: Fix Committed
