I have also got this problem on my home PC:s Dapper. The failure came
when i updated my kernel to 686 version and has been on since then. I
tried with the 386 kernel, and with it shutdown went OK. So the bug
seems to be in the 686 kernel.

MS-6178 with intel chipset and i810 graphics, PIII/400Mhz/256MB
