[Bug 63388] Repeating broken sound after Dapper -> Edgy beta update

Updated using the apt-get route.

Any attempt at playing sound, either in gnome or kde, will cause the
incesant repetition of the start of the sound sample. This happens, for
example, with the drum sound of gdm when started.

Please advise on how to gather diagnosing useful info.
